During a weekly media briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi outlined Pakistan’s close observation of significant regional and global developments, including the evolving diplomatic engagement between Iran and the United States and a recent maritime security issue involving Somalia.

Regarding Iran-US relations, he expressed Islamabad’s optimism that the two nations might soon finalize an agreement. He emphasized Pakistan’s support for any resolution between Washington and Tehran, irrespective of the venue where it is achieved. Andrabi added that such an agreement would be viewed positively as a step toward regional stability, and Pakistan would consider hosting any related diplomatic negotiations an honour. He remarked, “We are hopeful that a deal between the United States and Iran will be reached in the near future,” while acknowledging uncertainty about whether the agreement would be comprehensive or limited in scope.

Turning to the maritime security incident, the spokesperson confirmed that Somalia has assured Pakistan of active communication with the pirates involved in the recent event affecting a vessel. He confirmed that all crew members remain safe and accounted for. Efforts continue to combat piracy in the region, with sustained coordination among relevant authorities aimed at enhancing maritime security and preventing future occurrences.

In a broader diplomatic context, Andrabi highlighted that the Deputy Prime Minister recently updated the diplomatic corps on regional developments, including the commemoration of the first anniversary of “Ma’arka-e-Haq” (Battle of Truth), recognized as a significant milestone in official discussions. Additionally, the Deputy Prime Minister engaged with Kuwaiti officials earlier this month, reflecting ongoing outreach to Gulf partners.

In a separate development, Norway’s Deputy Foreign Minister visited Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry and met with Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. During this meeting, an invitation was extended to Dar to participate in the Oslo Forum, an international platform dedicated to peace and mediation efforts.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s foreign policy, the spokesperson underscored Islamabad’s commitment to dialogue and diplomacy as essential means for resolving conflicts, especially amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, South Asia, and maritime zones.
