Sindh Govt Grants NOC for Karachi Metropolitan University Nursing School

The Sindh government has officially granted a no-objection certificate (NOC) for the establishment of the Karachi Metropolitan University (KMU) School of Nursing. This approval, issued by the provincial health department on Thursday, permits the university to commence its nursing education programs.

Meanwhile, the final authorization from the Pakistan Nursing & Midwifery Council has been awaited for the past 18 months. The NOC authorizes KMU to launch a four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program alongside a Community Midwifery (CMW) diploma course.

This approval came after a thorough evaluation by an inspection committee that reviewed the university’s infrastructure, academic quality, and faculty capabilities. Despite this progress, the Pakistan Nursing & Midwifery Council retains the responsibility for final approval, registration, and ongoing regulation of nursing education standards as per existing regulations.

In a significant development, Karachi Metropolitan University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Wasim Qazi, emphasized that the nursing school’s establishment aligns with the university’s mission to deliver modern, research-driven healthcare education tailored to current demands. He highlighted that this initiative aims to mitigate the shortage of qualified nursing and midwifery professionals and contribute to national progress through expanded health and education academic offerings.
