The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) has issued red notices for property tycoon Malik Riaz and his son, Ali Riaz Malik, following a request from Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB). This development was announced by NAB Chairman Nazir Ahmed Butt during a media briefing on Wednesday.

In a significant update, Butt revealed that investigations involving more than Rs900 billion linked to Malik Riaz have been completed. Meanwhile, NAB Director General Operations Amjad Majeed Aulakh highlighted that the bureau recovered Rs89 billion in the previous year and is actively pursuing 37 high-profile money laundering cases.

He further noted that courts have closed four money laundering cases, while 289 references, 205 investigations, and 745 inquiries remain ongoing. Between January and March of this year, NAB received 8,563 complaints, disposing of 8,214, with 475 still under process.

Investigations continue into various housing and development projects, including Bahria Town. Authorities have successfully reclaimed land in several areas of Sindh such as Malir, Korangi, and Clifton, as well as properties linked to Gul Ahmed Mills. Additionally, over 900,000 acres of land have been recovered in Punjab.

To protect the recovered state land, a provincial-level task force has been established. The NAB chairman also disclosed that the Bahria Town Karachi case involved questioning multiple politicians, with ongoing cases against several parliamentarians. Some of these cases have been transferred to the Federal Investigation Agency and other relevant departments for further proceedings.
