RAWALPINDI: On the occasion of Pakistan Day, observed annually on March 23, the leadership of Pakistan’s Armed Forces reiterated their steadfast dedication to protecting the country’s sovereignty and maintaining internal security. This solemn day marks the historic Lahore Resolution passed in 1940, a pivotal moment when the All-India Muslim League formally demanded a separate homeland for Muslims within British India, laying the groundwork for the creation of Pakistan.

In a detailed statement issued to commemorate the 86th anniversary of this defining event, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) emphasized that Pakistan continues to face serious challenges from terrorism and extremism. The armed forces, working closely with law enforcement agencies and supported by the public, remain resolute in their mission to eliminate all threats that jeopardize national security. This commitment extends across the country’s borders and within its internal domains, reflecting a comprehensive approach to safeguarding peace and stability.

The statement highlighted the armed forces’ unwavering role in defending Pakistan’s frontiers against any form of aggression, while also ensuring the maintenance of law and order inside the country. It praised the resilience and unity of the Pakistani people, whose spirit continues to inspire the military’s efforts. Chief of Defence Staff and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu collectively extended their congratulations to the nation, acknowledging the sacrifices made by both the armed forces and civilians alike.

Reflecting on the significance of March 23, 1940, the statement described the Lahore Resolution as a historic milestone that crystallized the aspirations of Muslims in the subcontinent for an independent homeland. It underscored how Pakistan has since evolved, progressing steadily under democratic governance, guided by the principles of faith, hope, and resilience. The armed forces reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening state institutions and ensuring the welfare of all citizens, which remains a cornerstone of national development.

Furthermore, the ISPR highlighted Pakistan’s role on the international stage as a responsible member of the global community, committed to promoting peace, stability, and cooperation among nations. The statement conveyed a message of unity and determination, emphasizing the country’s ongoing journey toward sustainable prosperity and security despite the challenges it faces.

In a related development, the Pakistan Army recently responded decisively to unprovoked attacks by the Afghan Taliban, resulting in the elimination of over 700 militants affiliated with both the Taliban and the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Several key Afghan infrastructures were also targeted and destroyed during these operations, showcasing the military’s resolve to neutralize cross-border threats effectively.

Meanwhile, in recognition of the upcoming Islamic festival of Eid ul-Fitr, the government announced a temporary suspension of Operation Ghazab lil-Haq, the ongoing military campaign against terrorist elements. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar confirmed that this pause, initiated by Islamabad and supported by requests from allied Islamic countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey, will be in effect from midnight on March 18/19 until midnight on March 23/24, 2026. This gesture, rooted in Islamic traditions of goodwill and peace during religious celebrations, aims to foster goodwill while maintaining vigilance against security threats.

Overall, the Pakistan Day statement and recent military actions underscore the country’s unwavering commitment to national security, reflecting a blend of historical pride, contemporary challenges, and a forward-looking vision for peace and stability.
