Update · 2 Nov 2026, 3:57 PM PKT: The home secretary submitted a report to the Lahore High Court in compliance with an earlier court order.

The court adjourned the hearing on the petition challenging the extension of Aleema Khan's detention until next week.

A Lahore court has called the city’s deputy commissioner to appear before it in person, after hearing challenges to the extended detention of Imran Khan’s sisters. The Lahore High Court also ordered that Noreen Niazi be allowed to meet her daughters in jail. The orders were issued on Monday by Justice Abher Gul Khan.

The judge gave the directions while hearing petitions brought by Aleema Khan’s son, Shahrez Khan, and by Sakeena Bibi. The petitions concern the detention of Aleema, Dr Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi, as well as Noreen’s medical treatment.

The deputy commissioner of Lahore must appear in person on November 4. The court also ordered that Noreen’s two daughters be permitted to see their mother at the jail at 10am on Tuesday, for one hour.

The petitioner’s lawyer has been directed to submit an application to the deputy commissioner about the meeting. The official was told to arrange the visit on the basis of that request.

Noreen Niazi’s hospital stay and custody timeline

Noreen was moved from Kot Lakhpat jail to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology on October 28, after she experienced heart-related discomfort. Lawyer Rana Mudassar Umar said she had been taken to hospital from the jail for that reason.

A lawyer representing the Punjab government told the court that Noreen had been treated and was later sent back to jail on doctors’ advice. He also said her daughter, Hajra Niazi, had already met her in hospital on October 29.

All three women have been held since last month under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, in connection with a PTI anti-government protest. Noreen and Uzma were detained for 30 days on September 21, shortly before a protest planned for September 27, which was later moved to October 4. Aleema’s detention began a day earlier, on September 20.

Separately, Rana Mudassar Umar told the court that the three sisters had spent 44 days in jail without committing any offence. He asked that a report in Aleema’s case also be summoned by November 4. Justice Khan responded that the court would examine the matter.

Petitioners challenge the October 7 detention notification

The Punjab government told the court in late October that it had extended the detention of the three sisters. A government lawyer said the detention had been extended by another 30 days on the recommendation of the deputy commissioner.

The petitioners argued that the initial 30-day detention period had expired before the deputy commissioner issued a notification extending it on October 7. They asked the court to declare that notification illegal and set it aside.

PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja earlier told the court that Aleema’s driver had also been detained. He described the driver as a non-political individual and asked for leniency in his case. Justice Khan said the court had sought reports in both matters and would examine them before going further.

The judge questioned why a separate petition had not been filed for the driver if his detention was a distinct concern. “You have filed the applications together, so we will seek the reports together as well,” he observed.
