The Punjab government has announced Diwali celebrations across the province under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s leadership. Minority Affairs Minister Ramesh Singh Arora made the announcement in Lahore, where he also sent festival greetings to Hindus in Pakistan and abroad.
Festival events planned in Rahim Yar Khan and Lahore
Arora said the government would mark the festival with the Hindu community in a grand and enthusiastic way. A special Diwali festival will be held in Rahim Yar Khan on November 4, while another lively event is set for Lahore on November 6, he added.
Government stresses religious harmony and inclusion
The provincial government said the celebrations reflect its commitment to religious harmony, cultural diversity and inclusion. It also said the events would allow it to share in the happiness of the Hindu community during the festival.
Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is called the Festival of Lights. The multi-day celebration symbolises light overcoming darkness, good over evil and wisdom over ignorance.
