Pakistan Promises Strong Response to Cross-Border Attacks from Afghanistan

Islamabad has issued a stern warning to the Afghan Taliban administration and various terrorist factions operating from Afghan soil, declaring that any further hostile actions will provoke a measured yet decisive response. This announcement follows Pakistan’s recent military operations aimed at dismantling terrorist logistical hubs located across the border in Afghanistan, a move prompted by a notable rise in cross-border attacks targeting Pakistani territory.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that these operations were conducted under Pakistan’s inherent right to self-defense, as enshrined in international law, with the primary objective of safeguarding the lives of its citizens and maintaining stability in the broader region. The government underscored that such measures were unavoidable given the escalating security threats emanating from Afghan territory.

In its official statement, the Foreign Office expressed deep concern over the increasing frequency of violent incidents originating from Afghanistan, which it attributed to the tacit support provided by the Afghan Taliban regime as well as external actors, notably India. Islamabad specifically called on Kabul to take immediate and effective action against extremist groups such as Fitna al-Khawarij and Fitna al-Hindustan, which have been implicated in orchestrating attacks against Pakistan.

Furthermore, Pakistan urged the international community to convey a clear and unequivocal message to the Taliban leadership, insisting that tangible and verifiable steps must be taken to curb the activities of terrorist organizations operating within Afghan borders. The statement reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peace and regional stability but made it clear that the country will not hesitate to employ all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty and protect its people.

It is important to note that Pakistan’s response aligns with its rights under the United Nations Charter, which recognizes the right of nations to defend themselves against aggression. The Foreign Office spokesperson reaffirmed that while Pakistan remains dedicated to pursuing peaceful solutions, it will respond firmly to any provocations that threaten its national security or the welfare of its citizens.

These developments come amid a complex geopolitical landscape in South Asia, where cross-border militancy continues to pose significant challenges. Pakistan’s recent actions and warnings highlight the ongoing tensions along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border and signal Islamabad’s resolve to counter any threats emanating from the region decisively.
