Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded 120 new dengue cases in the last 24 hours, raising the provincial total to 4,219, according to the provincial health department. Kohat is the hardest-hit district with 2,659 cases, and Peshawar comes next with 573, based on the newest figures.

The health department has declared an outbreak in Kohat, where a steep rise in infections has led to stepped-up prevention work. Peshawar has also been flagged as a high-risk district.

Other districts in the province reporting infections

Several more districts have recorded cases, according to earlier provincial surveillance reports. The affected areas named include:

  • Bannu
  • Khyber
  • Haripur
  • Charsadda
  • Abbottabad
  • Nowshera
  • Karak
  • Mansehra
  • Dera Ismail Khan
  • Swabi
  • Mohmand

Dengue cases recorded in Islamabad, Punjab and Sindh

Dengue cases have also been reported elsewhere in the country. Islamabad logged 47 cases between January 1 and October 18, while Punjab reported infections in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Chakwal, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan and several other districts in September.

National Institutes of Health surveillance data has also recorded suspected cases in Sindh, alongside Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad. However, the national figures may not give a full picture, since reporting coverage and time periods differ between jurisdictions.

Prevention appeals and regional vaccine developments

Health authorities have urged residents to remove stagnant water and other potential mosquito-breeding sites to curb further spread. Earlier, Bangladesh was reported to be considering clinical trials of a dengue vaccine after thousands of patients were hospitalised and hundreds died.

Health ministry data showed more than 90,350 people hospitalised with dengue and 281 deaths since the start of the year.
