The Punjab government has announced plans to develop Punjab Film City in Lahore, aiming to restore the province’s filmmaking prestige. This ambitious project will be established on a 50-acre site, envisioned as a creative hub where artistic dreams can flourish and showcase Pakistan’s vibrant culture to the world.
Conceived nearly two years ago, the Punjab Film City initiative has been shaped through ongoing consultations with key figures from Pakistan’s entertainment industry. This innovative development will provide a comprehensive, independent pipeline for content creation within the country.
The facility will include state-of-the-art studios and sound stages, cutting-edge visual effects and post-production laboratories, as well as diverse backlots centered around a scenic lake. Additionally, the complex will feature a convention hall designed for international award ceremonies, integrated media trade centers, and a dedicated film and music school. Safety and emergency response infrastructure will also be prioritized, alongside a lively entertainment district.
This project is expected to empower local talent, reducing dependence on foreign producers. Upon completion, it will generate thousands of jobs for Pakistani filmmakers and position the country as a global hub for creative excellence.
In a significant development, the Punjab government expressed its vision to transform the region into a global destination for technology, innovation, heritage, and culture. The Punjab Film City is described as a valuable gift to the youth and artists of the province, reinforcing its commitment to nurturing the creative sector.
