A passenger plane from London landed unexpectedly at Warsaw-Modlin airport in Poland on Tuesday after a bomb threat alert was raised on board, forcing the airport to shut. A second flight, from Copenhagen, was being inspected at Warsaw-Chopin airport.
Security services are checking the reported threat at Modlin, according to a statement from the airport. It said the alert was announced at 9:54 am on a London Heathrow to Warsaw Chopin service, and that a Boeing 737 MAX touched down at Modlin at 10:01 am. The airport will stay closed until further notice, and the 181 people on board were being evacuated.
LOT confirms its flight and SAS threat reported at Chopin
A spokesperson for Polish airline LOT confirmed that the aircraft was operating one of its flights. Separately, a bomb threat was also reported on an SAS flight travelling from Copenhagen to Warsaw. That plane landed at Chopin airport and is being inspected, a Warsaw-Chopin Airport spokesperson said, adding that operations there were continuing.
Where the two Warsaw airports sit in relation to the city
