The family of Hina Javed has again voiced distrust in the police investigation into her murder in Rawalpindi, the third time it has done so. The family also turned down a police offer of a fresh investigation into the case, insisting instead on a judicial commission to examine the killing.

Her brother, Fahad Javed, has written to the National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior to repeat the family’s demand. The Ministry of Interior had proposed moving the investigation to another district.

Family rejects re-investigation and seeks judicial commission

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Investigation Saif Ullah contacted the family and advised them to submit a formal application for a re-investigation. The family has not changed its position and continues to press for a judicial commission.

According to the law, an investigation can be transferred only once or twice and cannot be changed indefinitely. Legal teams face serious difficulties when investigation teams are replaced repeatedly because of ongoing distrust, the report said. A high-level legal team is reviewing the family’s new demands every day.

Arrests and allegations in the Askari Apartments case

Police have arrested Faisal Asghar, the husband of 45-year-old Hina Javed, in connection with her alleged murder. The incident took place at Askari Apartments in the Lalkurti area, under the jurisdiction of the Civil Lines Police Station. Police have also arrested a domestic worker, identified as Zeeshan.

According to the first information report (FIR), registered on her brother’s complaint, Hina’s body was found in the bathroom of the residence. The FIR alleges that her hands were tied behind her back, a cloth was stuffed into her mouth and a wire was wrapped around her neck. It also alleges she was severely tortured before her death.

Hina had married Faisal Asghar, son of retired Colonel (r) Asghar Ali Fayyaz, in November 2025. Her brother told police he received a call from Asghar Fayyaz saying there was an emergency. He said he went to the house with his father-in-law, Major (retd.) Chan Zeb, and found Hina dead. The FIR names her husband, father-in-law and the domestic worker in connection with the alleged killing.

The family has also suspected that Hina may have been given a poisonous substance. Her brother alleged that the suspects tried to present the death as a suicide. The FIR further alleges that Faisal had previously mistreated Hina and that this was his second marriage. His first wife reportedly obtained a divorce, allegedly because of domestic violence.

Police said evidence has been collected from the crime scene and that an investigation into all aspects of the case is under way.

Family demands arrest of father-in-law

Hina’s family has raised concern over the alleged role of her father-in-law, who, according to the family, has not yet been arrested. They have demanded his immediate arrest and a thorough inquiry into his alleged involvement.

In a statement, the family called on the Punjab Police and other relevant authorities to ensure a transparent and impartial investigation, free from influence, pressure or delay. The family said anyone found to have enabled, concealed or taken part in the alleged crime should be held accountable under the law.
