Nobel Laureate Narges Mohammadi Hospitalized After Prison Collapse in Iran

Narges Mohammadi, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate and renowned human rights advocate, was urgently hospitalized in Zanjan after losing consciousness while incarcerated on Friday. The incident occurred inside the prison, leading to her immediate transfer to a local hospital.

Currently, Mohammadi is receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU), with growing concerns about her worsening condition. Despite the severity of her health, Iranian judicial authorities have reportedly refused requests from her family and legal representatives to move her to a more advanced medical facility in Tehran.

Her family has emphasized the importance of her receiving care from her longtime cardiologist in the capital, where superior medical resources are available. Meanwhile, her husband, Taghi Rahmani, who resides in exile in Paris, has voiced deep anxiety over her repeated collapses and loss of consciousness, describing the situation as critical and urging immediate transfer to a specialist hospital.

In a significant development, official responses have been notably absent amid this health crisis. Iran’s mission to the United Nations has not provided any comments regarding Mohammadi’s current medical condition or the circumstances surrounding her collapse.

Mohammadi, honored with the Nobel Peace Prize for her relentless efforts against the oppression of women in Iran, has endured multiple imprisonments and ongoing health challenges during her detention. Her case continues to draw international attention as calls for urgent medical intervention persist.
