Early Sunday morning at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, a fire erupted in the engine of a Swiss International Air Lines aircraft preparing for takeoff, prompting an emergency evacuation that left six passengers injured. The flight was scheduled to depart for Zurich when the incident occurred.

As the plane accelerated on the runway, one of its engines malfunctioned and caught fire. The flight crew promptly aborted the takeoff and initiated evacuation procedures. During the hurried exit, panic and overcrowding caused a stampede-like situation both inside and outside the aircraft, resulting in several injuries.

Emergency response teams at the airport acted swiftly, securing the area and assisting passengers to safety. The injured individuals were transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Notably, no fatalities have been reported following the incident.

In a significant development, aviation authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the engine fire and to evaluate the effectiveness of safety protocols during the evacuation. The aircraft remains grounded for a comprehensive technical inspection.

Officials have yet to disclose further information about the condition of the injured passengers or the total number of people on board at the time of the emergency.
