Former Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi Dies from Injuries in US-Israel Strike

Former Iranian foreign minister Kamal Kharazi has passed away after succumbing to injuries he sustained in an attack earlier this month, which Iranian media attributed to a US-Israel operation. The 81-year-old diplomat died several days after being critically wounded in the strike on April 1.

State-affiliated Iranian news agencies Mehr and Isna reported that Kharazi was targeted in what they described as a “terrorist attack,” framing his death as martyrdom. At the time of the incident, Kharazi was serving as the head of Iran’s Strategic Council for International Relations, an organization connected to the country’s foreign ministry.

Notably, media reports also revealed that Kharazi’s wife was killed during the same attack on their residence in Tehran. This incident adds to a series of alleged targeted strikes against senior Iranian political and military figures that have been reported since late February.

Kharazi was a prominent figure in Iranian diplomacy, having served as Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations before his tenure as foreign minister from 1997 to 2005 under President Mohammad Khatami. His death marks a significant development amid ongoing tensions and targeted operations within the region.
