Hull City Signs Senegal Defender Nobel Mendy from Rayo Vallecano

Hull City have secured the signing of Senegalese defender Nobel Mendy from La Liga club Rayo Vallecano, agreeing to a five-year contract with an option to extend for an additional year. The announcement came from the newly promoted Premier League side on Wednesday.

While the financial terms were not officially disclosed, British media outlets reported that Hull City paid approximately $28.82 million plus add-ons for the 21-year-old defender. This transfer fee surpasses Hull’s previous record, which was set earlier this month when they signed Greek goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis for 20 million pounds.

Mendy joined Rayo Vallecano from Real Betis and made a notable impact during his single season with the Spanish club, scoring twice in 28 appearances. Prior to that, he made six senior appearances for Betis and contributed to their run to the 2025 Conference League final.

In a significant development for his international career, the left-footed defender earned his first cap for Senegal in March, starting in a 3-1 friendly victory over Gambia.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Mendy revealed that playing in the Premier League had been a lifelong ambition. He stated, “I have wanted to play in the Premier League since I was little, so it’s a great challenge to face and I am ready for it.”

Hull City, having secured promotion to the Premier League, are actively reinforcing their squad as they prepare for their return to England’s top tier.
