The parliamentary party of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to support the proposed 28th Constitutional Amendment only if party founder Imran Khan is released, sources said.
According to sources, most participants at a parliamentary party meeting at Parliament House in Islamabad backed linking the party’s support for the amendment to Khan’s freedom. The session ran for seven hours and was marked by friction over internal differences, talks with the government and preparations for a long march.
Six-member committee to handle Khan’s access and treatment
The meeting also agreed to form a six-member steering committee to deal with access to Khan and his medical treatment. Opposition leaders Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas will head the panel, sources said.

The committee will also negotiate with the government and other relevant individuals. Sources said it will include two National Assembly members and two senators, with one representative each from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Lawmakers walk out amid heated exchanges
Earlier in the meeting, several PTI lawmakers left the committee room after heated exchanges. Sources said Faisal Amin Khan, brother of Ali Amin Gandapur, stormed out in anger and forcefully shut the door behind him.
PTI MNA Khawaja Sheraz also left, telling colleagues who called out to him that he would return after a phone call. Ali Muhammad Khan and Shehryar Afridi also walked out, with Ali Muhammad Khan saying he would return after taking a call and Shehryar Afridi saying he was going to offer prayers.
