University of Karachi Professor Arif Khan Saqi has announced that he has reached a reconciliation with Konain Shah, the individual accused of assaulting him. The two met at the professor’s residence, where the matter was resolved amicably. Notably, Shah’s father has also made periodic visits to Professor Saqi’s home during this process.
Professor Saqi confirmed the reconciliation and mentioned that compensation was provided for the damage caused to his nephew’s car during the incident. The meeting took place on Sunday night when Konain Shah personally apologized, leading to the professor’s forgiveness. Shah remains out on bail in connection with the assault case.
The case stems from an altercation near Safoora Chowrangi involving a collision between a double-cabin vehicle and an online taxi in which Professor Saqi was a passenger. The taxi belonged to his nephew, Waheedur Rehman. Professor Saqi, the double-cabin vehicle was exiting a parking area when security guards signaled the taxi to stop. Subsequently, the double-cabin reversed and struck the taxi.
Professor Saqi stated that he requested those in the double-cabin to compensate the taxi driver for the damage. However, the situation escalated when the son of a hotel owner exited the vehicle, fired two shots, and physically assaulted the professor with the butt of a pistol before discharging firearms into the air. Following this, both Professor Saqi and his nephew were taken to the hotel where they endured torture.
Police registered a case at Sachal police station based on Professor Saqi’s complaint against Konain Shah and others. The charges include attempted murder, assault, causing injuries, and wrongful confinement.
