ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif convened on Friday at the President’s House to deliberate on the trilateral agreement recently signed between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye. Their discussion also covered regional security concerns and ongoing efforts to combat terrorism.

The prime minister updated the president on the “historic” peace accord reached in Makkah, emphasizing its significance in fostering defence collaboration and regional stability. President Zardari extended his best wishes for the successful implementation of the agreement, highlighting its potential to enhance security for the Muslim Ummah.

In a notable development, the president commended Prime Minister Shehbaz and Chief of Defence Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their dedication to strengthening the longstanding brotherly relations among the three countries into a more robust strategic partnership.

The leaders also reviewed both domestic and international matters, paying tribute to the professionalism of Pakistan’s armed forces and law enforcement agencies in their counterterrorism operations. They reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating terrorism from the country entirely.

President Zardari underscored the importance of implementing effective measures to alleviate public hardships amid the current regional challenges. He stressed the need to ensure steady supplies of essential goods at affordable prices to support the population.

Expressing optimism, the president hoped that Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives aimed at fostering regional and global peace would enhance the nation’s international stature and positively influence the economy and citizens’ welfare.

The meeting included the participation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, and Senator Sherry Rehman.

This important dialogue coincided with Pakistan’s Independence Day on August 14, during which Prime Minister Shehbaz also extended his greetings to President Zardari.
