President Zardari Establishes Panel to Investigate Management Issues at PIFD

President Asif Ali Zardari has taken decisive action by setting up a specialized committee to thoroughly investigate the reported administrative shortcomings and mismanagement at the Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design (PIFD). This move aims to address growing concerns about governance and operational inefficiencies within the institution, which has been under scrutiny for some time.

The newly formed committee has been assigned the responsibility of conducting an extensive visitation and review of the institute’s affairs. Among the key issues it will examine is the controversial appointment of the acting vice chancellor, which has raised questions about procedural adherence and transparency. The President’s Secretariat issued an official notification outlining the committee’s mandate to delve into these irregularities and provide a clear assessment of the situation.

Leadership of this inquiry panel has been entrusted to the chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), reflecting the importance of maintaining high standards in educational institutions. Alongside the HEC chairman, the committee includes the HEC executive director and a designated representative from the President’s Secretariat. This composition is intended to ensure a balanced and authoritative approach to the investigation. Furthermore, the committee holds the discretion to bring in additional experts or members if the complexity of the case demands further expertise.

This development follows concerns raised by the chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training, who brought the alleged administrative lapses at PIFD to the forefront. The parliamentary oversight body’s involvement underscores the seriousness of the issues and the need for a transparent inquiry. The committee’s findings will be crucial in guiding future decisions regarding the institute’s leadership and governance framework.

Upon completion of its detailed inquiry, the committee is expected to compile a comprehensive report outlining its observations and recommendations. This report will be submitted to the chancellor of PIFD for further action. The ultimate goal of this exercise is to restore confidence in the institute’s administration by promoting accountability and ensuring that proper management practices are followed. The President’s initiative highlights a commitment to upholding integrity within Pakistan’s higher education sector.
