Iran says its border with Pakistan is still open and that it has placed no limits on exports to Pakistan, including liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam made the clarification in a statement on X, responding to reports that the frontier had been closed.

The envoy argued that shutting the border to immediate neighbours, and particularly to Pakistan, would make little sense for either side. He did, however, point to changes in Pakistan’s E-Form procedure for imports from Iran. In his view, those changes had left traders “effectively and literally unable to dispatch cargo from Iran to Pakistan”. He said consultations with the Pakistani side were underway to resolve the matter.

LPG trucks stranded at Rimdan and Gabd crossing

Moghadam said reports indicated that several hundred trucks carrying LPG had crossed the Rimdan border into Gabd on the Pakistani side. According to him, the vehicles have remained there for several weeks without being unloaded or cleared.

He said the backlog was further complicating the movement of goods and the smooth flow of bilateral trade.

Tehran says it backs cross-border trade with Pakistan

The ambassador stressed that cross-border trade forms an integral part of bilateral agreements reached at the highest levels, and that it serves the interests of both countries and their people. “Iran has made every possible effort, leaving no stone unturned, to facilitate and promote this essential bilateral trade,” he said.

Moghadam added that Tehran remains committed to working closely with its Pakistani counterparts to overcome the current challenges, ease the movement of goods and strengthen economic cooperation.
