Karachi Implements Extensive Traffic Restrictions on March 2 for Security Measures

On Sunday, March 2, 2026, Karachi’s Traffic Police have rolled out a comprehensive traffic management plan specifically targeting District South. This initiative comes as part of enhanced security measures being enforced throughout the day, which will result in the closure of several major roads to regular vehicular movement. The authorities have emphasized the importance of these restrictions to ensure public safety and smooth coordination during the security operations.

One of the primary roads affected is MT Khan Road, which will be closed from the PIDC area extending to Mai Kolachi Road, reaching up to the railway crossing. This stretch will be off-limits to all standard traffic, a move designed to minimize congestion and maintain a secure environment. The Karachi Traffic Police have urged commuters to remain patient and consider alternate routes to avoid unnecessary delays and inconvenience during this period.

For those traveling from Bilawal House and Clifton towards Jinnah Bridge via Mai Kolachi Road, the recommended detour involves taking the route through Three Swords, Clifton Bridge, Metropole, and Fountain Chowk. From Fountain Chowk, drivers should turn left towards Shaheen Complex to continue their journey. This carefully planned diversion aims to facilitate smoother traffic flow and reduce bottlenecks in the vicinity of the closed roads.

In addition to these arrangements, traffic personnel have been strategically positioned at key intersections across District South. Their role is to assist motorists by providing directions and ensuring compliance with the temporary traffic regulations. For travelers coming from Mauripur heading towards Boat Basin, the advised route is to use Jinnah Bridge and then take a left turn onto I. I. Chundrigar Road, which remains open for traffic.

Meanwhile, vehicles approaching from ICI Chowk are encouraged to navigate via the road adjacent to Katiyana Memon Hospital and proceed along Nawab Mahabat Khanji Road. This alternative path has been designated to ease pressure on the main thoroughfares and maintain a steady flow of vehicles. Furthermore, drivers moving from Shahrah-e-Faisal towards Jinnah Bridge should divert right at PIDC and pass through Shaheen Complex before reaching I. I. Chundrigar Road, ensuring they avoid the restricted zones.

The Karachi Traffic Police have appealed to all citizens to cooperate fully with the ongoing traffic directives and to plan their journeys ahead of time. Staying updated with live traffic information and adhering to the suggested detours will be crucial in preventing gridlocks and ensuring a hassle-free commute. Authorities have confirmed that these special traffic controls will be in place only for the duration of the security arrangements, with normal traffic patterns expected to resume once the measures conclude.
