Iran Vows Retaliation After Supreme Leader Khamenei’s Assassination in US-Israel Strikes

In a dramatic and unprecedented development, Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian publicly condemned the assassination of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, describing it as a blatant act of war against the Muslim world. Speaking on Sunday, Pezeshkian emphasized that the targeted killing, carried out in a coordinated missile strike by the United States and Israel, represents not only a grievous crime but also a direct challenge to Iran’s sovereignty and the wider Islamic community.

President Pezeshkian’s statement marked his first official response since the shocking attack that reportedly killed Khamenei while he was engaged in official duties at his office. The Iranian leader underscored that avenging the death of the Supreme Leader is not merely a political necessity but a sacred and legitimate obligation for the Islamic Republic. He asserted that Iran is committed to identifying and punishing all those responsible for orchestrating this historic and tragic event.

Expanding on the gravity of the situation, Pezeshkian described the assassination as a pivotal moment that could reshape the geopolitical landscape of the Middle East. He warned that the blood of Ayatollah Khamenei would not be left unavenged, promising a strong and decisive response against the perpetrators. The President’s remarks conveyed a clear message that Iran views this attack as an open declaration of war against Muslims worldwide, heightening tensions in an already volatile region.

Iranian media reports, the missile strikes were highly coordinated and targeted not only Khamenei but also members of his immediate family, including his son, daughter-in-law, daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter. This devastating blow has sent shockwaves through the country, where Khamenei had been the supreme political and religious authority since 1989, guiding Iran through decades of internal and external challenges.

In response to the assassination, Iranian authorities have declared a seven-day national holiday to mourn the loss, alongside a 40-day period of official mourning. These measures reflect the profound impact of the event on the nation’s psyche and the government’s intent to unify the country during this critical time. Furthermore, the Iranian leadership has vowed to pursue retaliation against those behind the attack, signaling a potential escalation in regional hostilities.

This incident comes amid a backdrop of heightened tensions between Iran, the United States, and Israel, with longstanding disputes over Iran’s nuclear program, regional influence, and military capabilities. The assassination of such a high-profile figure is likely to deepen animosities and could trigger a series of retaliatory actions, raising concerns about the stability and security of the Middle East in the coming weeks.
