PMD Warns of Heatwave in Karachi and Most Sindh Districts Until May 11

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave warning for Karachi and the majority of Sindh’s districts, forecasting a significant rise in temperatures from Wednesday through May 11. The Met Office anticipates hot to very hot and dry weather conditions prevailing across most parts of the province during this period.

In particular, central and upper Sindh districts are expected to experience severe heatwave conditions. Daytime temperatures could soar between 47 and 49 degrees Celsius in several areas, including Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Ghotki, Khairpur, Nosheroferoz, Jacobabad, Larkana, and Sukkur.

Karachi, along with Hyderabad, Naushahro Feroze, Jacobabad, Larkana, and Sukkur, is also forecasted to endure intense heat. The PMD has urged the public to minimize unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight, maintain adequate hydration, and take necessary precautions, especially for vulnerable groups such as children, women, and the elderly.

Meanwhile, farmers have been advised to exercise caution during crop harvesting and livestock management to mitigate the impact of extreme weather. Heatwaves are a common occurrence in Sindh during late spring and early summer, often becoming more severe in interior districts where temperatures frequently exceed 45 degrees Celsius.
