A Saudi-led coalition fighting Yemen’s Houthi rebels said on Saturday that it had intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile fired toward the Saudi capital, Riyadh. The interception took place while several parts of the kingdom were under elevated security alerts.

Saudi civil defence authorities later announced that the danger had passed in Riyadh, Najran and the Wadi Al-Dawasir governorate, following earlier warnings of possible threats. Separately, the coalition said in a statement issued earlier that day that it had destroyed a drone over the Eastern Province.

Earlier Houthi missile attack and civil defence alerts

Saudi air defence forces had previously intercepted and destroyed a Houthi ballistic missile aimed at Riyadh on October 23. Civil defence authorities issued early warnings in the capital and the southern Najran region at that time. The alerts were lifted shortly after authorities confirmed the immediate threat had ended.

Saudi officials did not directly connect the recent incidents to other events, although the developments came amid wider regional security tensions.

Statistics forum in Riyadh postponed to 2027

In a separate announcement, the General Authority for Statistics said the UN Global Data Forum and the Second Saudi Statistical Forum, planned for November 9-12 in Riyadh, have been pushed back to 2027. The authority gave no reason for the delay and did not link the decision to the security situation.
