Pope Leo has consistently condemned the ongoing conflict in Iran, urging an immediate cessation of hostilities and encouraging global leaders to prioritize dialogue over military escalation. Through homilies, public prayers, and press interactions, the Pope highlighted the severe human suffering and instability caused by the violence.

Addressing the crisis in the Middle East, he emphasized that the threat to civilians is unacceptable, noting that innocent populations, particularly children and the elderly, bear the brunt of the conflict. He called for diplomatic efforts, stating, “Stop! It is time for peace! Sit at the tables of dialogue and mediation.”

In a significant development, Pope Leo welcomed news of a temporary truce in the region, describing it as a hopeful sign. He urged that this pause be used to foster negotiations aimed at achieving a durable resolution. Additionally, he appealed to citizens worldwide to pressure their leaders to reject war and seek peaceful solutions.

Meanwhile, tensions intensified after US President Donald Trump publicly criticized the Pope via social media, labeling him as “weak on foreign policy” and questioning his approach to Iran and global security matters. Trump further demanded that the Pope “get his act together,” escalating the public dispute between the Vatican and the White House.

In response, Pope Leo dismissed the criticism, affirming that he would not engage in political conflicts. He reiterated that his mission is grounded in the Gospel’s message, stating, “Blessed are the peacemakers.” The Pope underscored the Church’s commitment to opposing war and advocating for peace, dialogue, and justice.
