Messi’s 901st Goal Propels Inter Miami to 3-2 Win Over NYCFC in MLS Clash

In a captivating Major League Soccer encounter on Sunday, Lionel Messi reached a remarkable milestone by netting the 901st goal of his illustrious career, guiding Inter Miami to a hard-fought 3-2 victory over New York City FC. This result marked the first loss for New York City in the current MLS season, ending their unbeaten run and providing a significant boost for Miami.

The match unfolded with high intensity from the outset. Argentine defender Gonzalo Lujan gave Inter Miami an early advantage, skillfully finishing with a precise right-footed shot into the lower right corner just four minutes into the game. However, New York City FC responded swiftly when Nicolas Fernandez equalized in the 17th minute, delivering a powerful left-footed free kick that soared into the upper left corner, leveling the score and setting the stage for a thrilling contest.

Throughout the first half, Messi was a constant threat, showcasing his trademark creativity and precision. Despite several opportunities, including a fast break chance in the 27th minute and a shot saved by New York’s goalkeeper Matt Freese in the 36th, the Argentine maestro was unable to find the net. He came agonizingly close multiple times, with a shot rattling the crossbar in the 42nd minute and another effort narrowly missing the target just before halftime.

New York City FC regained the lead in the 59th minute when Agustín Ojeda capitalized on a through ball from Maxi Moralez, expertly placing his shot into the bottom right corner. Yet, Messi once again demonstrated his clutch ability, restoring parity in the 61st minute with a stunning left-footed free kick after being fouled by Aiden O’Neill. This goal not only energized Miami but also underscored Messi’s enduring impact on the pitch.

The decisive moment arrived in the 74th minute when Brazilian defender Micael rose above the defense to head home the winning goal from a precise cross delivered by Noah Allen. This strike sealed the victory for Inter Miami, who improved their season record to three wins, one loss, and one draw. Meanwhile, New York City FC’s unbeaten streak was halted, leaving them with three wins and one loss so far this season.

It is worth noting that Inter Miami entered this match still reeling from their recent exit from the CONCACAF Champions Cup following a draw with Nashville. Remarkably, Messi had marked that same night by scoring the 900th goal of his career, further highlighting his extraordinary consistency and influence in the game. Sunday’s performance reaffirmed his status as a pivotal figure for Miami and a global football icon.
