The Asian Football Confederation said on Sunday that it had postponed the Champions League Elite match between Saudi side Al Nassr and UAE club Al Wasl, which was scheduled for Monday in Riyadh. The AFC gave no reason and announced no new date.
Saudi media reported on Sunday that Al Wasl’s delegation had not arrived in Riyadh before the postponement.
Regional conflict and travel concerns in focus
Meanwhile, fighting between a Saudi-led coalition and Houthi forces in Yemen has intensified in recent weeks. The Houthis have repeatedly targeted Saudi airports, including Riyadh. Saudi teams had previously travelled by road for AFC Elite matches, such as Al Hilal’s bus trip to Qatar to face Al Sadd.
Several Saudi Pro League matches have also been postponed this month for logistical reasons.
