PSG Reacquires France Defender Lucas Digne on Three-Year Deal

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have officially brought back French defender Lucas Digne from Aston Villa, signing him on a contract that extends through 2029. The Ligue 1 champions announced the deal on Sunday, though financial terms were not formally disclosed. British media outlets reported that PSG triggered an $11.46 million release clause to secure the left-back’s transfer.

Digne’s return to Paris marks a homecoming 11 years after he initially left the club. He previously spent two seasons at PSG between 2013 and 2015, during which he contributed to winning two Ligue 1 titles, a French Cup, and two League Cups.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Digne stated, “I am very honoured to be returning to Paris Saint-Germain following the wonderful experience I had here more than 10 years ago. I cannot wait to start this new chapter and put all my experience at the service of the team.”

Beginning his professional journey at Lille, Digne moved to PSG before spending a season on loan at Roma. In 2016, he transferred to Barcelona, where he made 46 appearances over two seasons and added a La Liga title, two Copa del Rey trophies, and a Spanish Super Cup to his achievements.

In 2018, Digne joined Everton and played four years in the Premier League before moving to Aston Villa. Over four and a half seasons at Villa Park, he became a pivotal player under manager Unai Emery and helped the club secure the Europa League title in 2026.

Internationally, Digne has been a France regular since 2014, earning 64 caps. He has represented Les Bleus in two World Cups, most recently aiding the team in reaching the semi-finals in 2026.

Looking ahead, PSG will kick off their Ligue 1 season against Rennes on August 23.
