PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has issued a notification confirming Sohail Afridi as chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying he remains backed by the confidence of party founder Imran Khan.

The notification bars meetings on nominating or replacing the provincial chief minister. It also prohibits party leaders and office-bearers from raising any agenda that would change the provincial leadership, and states that no proposal or discussion on the matter will be permitted.

Gohar says only Imran Khan can change the decision

Barrister Gohar said only Imran Khan has the authority to nominate an alternative chief minister or reverse the current decision. He added that the founder’s decisions on the matter would be final and binding on all party members.

Parliamentary party backs Afridi at internal meeting

Earlier, the PTI parliamentary party expressed full confidence in Sohail Afridi, Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Nasir Abbas, sources said. The meeting agreed to strengthen the parliamentary party’s role alongside the core and political committees.

Participants also criticised members who made statements against the party in the media, and asked Barrister Gohar to investigate those responsible.

Mashal Yousafzai’s remarks draw rebuttals from colleagues

Sources said Mashal Yousafzai voiced a lack of confidence in Afridi and the opposition leadership during the meeting. She reportedly claimed that, while the founder was unwell, Afridi was more focused on a long march than on negotiations.

Asad Qaiser said the founder had expressed confidence in Afridi, Achakzai and Allama Nasir Abbas, according to sources. Shafqat Awan urged Yousafzai not to accuse party members or Afridi, saying colleagues were being blamed instead of the government being pressed, sources added.
