The Sindh government has taken a decisive step by imposing a comprehensive ban on the issuance of new arms licences throughout the province, effective immediately. This move aims to tighten control over firearms and enhance public safety amid growing concerns about security. The directive applies to all licensing authorities, which are now prohibited from granting any new arms licences until further notice.

In addition to halting new arms licences, the provincial administration has also suspended the issuance of new arms dealership licences. All relevant licensing bodies have been instructed to rigorously enforce this prohibition to ensure full compliance. This dual ban reflects the government’s commitment to regulating the arms trade and preventing unauthorized access to weapons.

Notably, the ban does allow for exceptions in special or exceptional circumstances. In such cases, the issuance of arms licences may proceed only after obtaining prior approval from the designated authorities. Specifically, permission must be granted by either the Sindh home minister or the chief minister, following the established rules and regulations governing arms licensing.

To guarantee adherence to the new policy, all licensing officials have been explicitly directed to implement the ban strictly. This measure underscores the provincial government’s intent to maintain stringent oversight over firearms distribution and curb illegal arms proliferation within Sindh.
