The Sindh Education Department has issued safety directives to private schools, banning gas cylinders in student transport and unsafe practices in school vehicles. The move follows instructions from the provincial education minister.

The department has barred the use of CNG and LPG cylinders in every vehicle that carries students, including school vans arranged by schools or by parents. It has also banned filling vehicle engines with petrol poured from bottles, cans or other improvised containers rather than proper fuel tanks, which it said carries serious safety risks.

Seating limits, fitness certificates and compliance rules

Under the directives, school vans may not carry more students than their authorised seating capacity. Pupils are also barred from standing on footboards, hanging from vehicles or sitting in other unsafe positions.

All student transport must have valid fitness certificates issued by the Sindh Transport Department, with a copy kept inside each vehicle for inspection. The department has told private institutions to enforce these requirements and relevant laws strictly. It warned that violations or negligence would be viewed seriously and that the schools concerned would face action under applicable rules.
