Pakistan and Kuwait formalized a new defence agreement on Thursday designed to broaden military cooperation, focusing on training, capacity building, and border management between their armed forces. The agreement, titled the “Protocol Agreement-2026,” was signed in Islamabad by senior officials from both nations, marking a significant expansion of the existing framework established under the “Defence Cooperation Agreement-2023.”
In a significant development, the Kuwaiti delegation was led by Minister of Defence Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Saleem Al-Sabah, who met with Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif. The discussions centered on matters of mutual interest, emphasizing bilateral defence relations, security cooperation, and fortifying defence ties between the two countries.
Under the terms of the new pact, the Pakistan Armed Forces will provide support to their Kuwaiti counterparts across various domains, including training programs, capacity enhancement, border management, and other mutually agreed defence collaboration areas. The agreement underscores the deep trust, mutual respect, and shared strategic interests that have long characterized the defence relationship between these two brotherly nations.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening this partnership further, aiming to support mutual security as well as promote regional peace and stability. Prior to the signing, the Kuwaiti delegation also met with Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.
The meeting, focused on regional security and bilateral defence cooperation, reinforced the commitment of both sides to enhance institutional ties and expand mutually beneficial defence collaboration. The Kuwaiti delegation expressed appreciation for the professionalism, operational excellence, and significant contributions of the Pakistan Armed Forces toward maintaining regional peace and stability.
This engagement reaffirmed the determination of Pakistan and Kuwait to deepen their historic and brotherly relations, transforming them into a robust, enduring, and mutually advantageous defence partnership that contributes to regional security and stability.
