Pakistan has taken on the chairmanship of the 9th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women, held in Islamabad. Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Azam Nazeer Tarar emphasized the country’s commitment to transforming shared goals on women’s empowerment into tangible outcomes throughout the Islamic world.

In assuming this leadership role, Tarar highlighted Pakistan’s dedication to improving the status of women in OIC member countries. He outlined plans to foster the exchange of experiences, encourage practical collaboration, and strengthen the collective resolve to empower women.

Notably, Tarar described women’s empowerment as a national priority deeply embedded in Pakistan’s Constitution, motivated by religious values, and vital for the nation’s progress. He pointed out ongoing efforts to enhance the legal, policy, and institutional frameworks that support women’s rights, opportunities, and leadership roles.

The minister further detailed government initiatives aimed at expanding women’s participation in leadership, promoting financial inclusion and entrepreneurship, closing the digital gap, enhancing access to justice, and ensuring safer, more inclusive workplaces. He stressed the importance of a united approach to guarantee that no woman or girl is marginalized due to conflict, poverty, or inequality.

Meanwhile, OIC Assistant Secretary General for Humanitarian, Cultural and Social Affairs Tarig Ali Bakheet urged member states to take collective and concrete steps to improve the lives of women and girls across the Islamic world, reinforcing the conference’s call for action.
