Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have incorporated 76 state-of-the-art drones into their operational framework to enhance aerial surveillance and intelligence-driven missions throughout the province. This initiative aims to strengthen the police force’s capacity to tackle terrorism and criminal activities more effectively.

The drones have been allocated to seven specialised units functioning across 27 districts, with the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in particularly sensitive areas receiving additional surveillance drones. These unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are equipped with high-resolution cameras, multi-sensor systems, and artificial intelligence (AI) features, significantly upgrading the force’s reconnaissance capabilities.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed highlighted that the introduction of these advanced drones will substantially enhance aerial monitoring and improve the effectiveness of counterterrorism operations. Notably, drones fitted with thermal imaging technology have been provided to frontline police units, enabling the detection of militant movements during nighttime operations.

The IGP emphasized that adopting modern technology is a crucial step toward developing a more efficient police force, aligning Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police with contemporary security demands. The integration of AI-enabled drone technology is expected to bring considerable advancements in intelligence-based operations across the province.

The Central Police Office confirmed the distribution of drones to districts including Peshawar, Khyber, Nowshera, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Battagram, Torghar, Haripur, Swat, Shangla, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Bajaur, Buner, Lower Chitral, Kohat, Hangu, Kurram, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, and Tank.

A formal ceremony was held at the Central Police Office in Peshawar to mark the induction of this advanced drone technology. Officials noted that this deployment is part of ongoing efforts to modernize the police force and bolster its operational capabilities against terrorism and organised crime.
