In Gilgit, tensions escalated outside the Sir Syed School polling station on Sunday as supporters of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) became involved in a heated confrontation that turned physical. Security forces promptly intervened to restore order, and no serious injuries were reported.

Meanwhile, voting is underway in Skardu’s GBA-9 constituency, where eight candidates are competing for the seat. The constituency has 33,649 registered voters, including 17,774 males and 15,875 females. Election officials have established 54 polling stations in the area, with 22 designated as highly sensitive and four as sensitive. The polling stations are divided into 12 male, 12 female, and 30 joint stations to facilitate the voting process.

Authorities emphasized that stringent security arrangements are in place to ensure a peaceful election, with most polling stations operating smoothly and orderly.

In a significant development, reports of serious disturbances surfaced from the Eidgah Female Polling Station in Astore. Voters there alleged irregularities, claiming that ballots were being stamped improperly and without their consent. These accusations have caused concern among local voters, although election officials have not yet provided an official statement addressing the matter.

The Chief Election Commissioner of Gilgit-Baltistan has called on voters to maintain peace and order as polling continues throughout the region.
