A high-level meeting convened at the Islamabad Police headquarters under the leadership of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Muhammad Jawad Tariq reviewed the security arrangements for Muharram. The session focused on implementing a comprehensive plan to ensure safety and order during religious gatherings and processions throughout the federal capital.
During the meeting, officers were assigned specific responsibilities, and coordination with relevant departments was reinforced to guarantee the effective execution of the security strategy. The DIG emphasized the necessity of a foolproof security framework, particularly concentrating on sensitive locations within the city.
To this end, intensified patrolling and search-and-comb operations will be conducted, complemented by enhanced surveillance and monitoring systems. Security personnel will perform thorough screenings of procession and majalis participants using metal detectors. Special vigilance will be maintained at key entry and exit points, as well as at imambargahs and other places of worship, to prevent any untoward incidents.
In addition, DIG Muhammad Jawad Tariq highlighted the critical role of traffic management during Muharram. Traffic police will operate around the clock to facilitate smooth movement during processions and gatherings. Officials have been instructed to meticulously review procession routes and ensure the removal of bushes and wild vegetation along these paths to enhance visibility and safety.
Moreover, the DIG underscored the importance of close collaboration with imambargah administrators and peace committees to foster community harmony and strengthen engagement. Reaffirming the police force’s dedication, he stated that safeguarding lives and property while maintaining peace during Muharram remains Islamabad Police’s highest priority.
