Google is widening sponsored placements within its AI search results to ten additional countries, Pakistan among them. Following trials earlier this year, the ads will now appear in Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, the Philippines and Singapore as well.

Further regional rollouts are planned. Viewers in Brazil, Mexico and the United Kingdom are expected to see the AI ads by late 2026. In the United States, Google is also launching multi-turn ads, which keep sponsored links on screen during every follow-up question in a conversation.

How the Gemini-powered ads work

The ads run on Google’s Gemini model. The system reads what a user types, generates a response and weaves relevant product suggestions into it. Every ad carries a clear sponsored label so users can tell it is a promotion.

In one example, a person asking about budget wireless headphones would receive both technical guidance and direct shopping links. Shashi Thakur, the executive overseeing these ads, said the company would keep testing new formats to remain useful and relevant.

Early results and questions over Gemini’s future

Google says its internal research shows users are comfortable seeing sponsored content in AI answers. Executives also said regular search results and ads achieve similar click-through rates.

The rapid growth raises questions about the chatbot itself. Google currently keeps advanced Gemini features behind paid subscriptions. Because people are using the new formats heavily, free Gemini accounts will likely receive similar ads soon.
