The Sindh High Court has ordered lawyers, judicial officers and court staff to strip unauthorised number plates, official emblems and blue lights from their private vehicles within seven days. Those who fail to comply could be barred from court premises across the province, and police could pursue legal action against them. The order was set out in a circular dated October 27, issued on the orders of the chief justice.

The directive applies to all court staff, judicial officers and advocates. It covers green plates, monograms, Sindh High Court emblems, logos, seals, stickers, badges, flags and inscriptions displayed on private vehicles.

Devices the circular bans from private vehicles

The circular also calls for the removal of several other items, including:

  • Blue lights, beacons, revolving lights and flashers
  • Designation signs
  • Counterfeit government or AFR plates
  • Concealed number plates
  • Any other unauthorised devices, symbols or accessories

According to the circular, such practices pose a serious security risk and create a false impression of official privilege. The court’s instructions are intended to stop them.

Exemptions, enforcement and staff accountability

The circular follows earlier circulars dated 22.06.2018, 02.02.2021 and 17.09.2021. Vehicles falling under Rule 76(f) of the Sindh Legal Practitioners and Bar Council Rules, 2017, are exempt from the directive.

Owners who do not comply will be refused entry to the Sindh High Court, City Courts and District and Sessions Courts across the province, the circular warned. Police authorities will take legal action against such owners in accordance with the law.

Issued on behalf of the registrar, the directive also instructs security staff and watchmen to ensure strict compliance. Security personnel who fail to enforce the directions will face disciplinary proceedings.
