In Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a formal ceremony on Thursday to honor Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, the spiritual leader of the Ismaili community. The event reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to continuing its collaboration with the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) across critical social and developmental sectors.

The prime minister emphasized AKDN’s impactful contributions in regions such as Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral, recognizing its longstanding efforts in improving healthcare, education, and community development in these remote areas. He specifically praised the Aga Khan University for its significant role in enhancing higher education and healthcare standards throughout Pakistan.

During his discussion with Prince Rahim Aga Khan, Shehbaz Sharif expressed that Pakistan remains a second home for the Aga Khan community. He also described AKDN as a dependable partner in tackling climate change challenges and reiterated the government’s commitment to deepening cooperation with the network.

Notably, the prime minister extended his gratitude to Prince Rahim Aga Khan for generously providing the Serena Hotel in Islamabad free of charge for official negotiations. Additionally, Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the late Prince Karim Aga Khan, acknowledging his seven decades of humanitarian service and contributions to Pakistan.

As a symbol of goodwill, the prime minister presented a commemorative postage stamp issued by Pakistan Post to honor the Aga Khan’s enduring legacy. The ceremony highlighted Pakistan’s intention to sustain a long-term partnership with AKDN, particularly focusing on development projects in underserved and climate-sensitive regions.
