Heavy Rainfall Disrupts Eid-ul-Fitr Prayers Across Karachi, Weather to Remain Unsettled

On the first day of Eid-ul-Fitr, Karachi witnessed unexpected heavy rainfall that significantly affected the traditional celebrations and prayer arrangements across the city. The downpour, accompanied by thunder and lightning, was reported in multiple areas including Malir, Shah Faisal, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and Gulistan-e-Johar. These showers brought a sudden change to the usually vibrant Eid morning, catching many residents off guard.

In addition to these neighborhoods, strong winds and rain were also recorded in Scheme 33, Safoora Chowrangi, Sohrab Goth, and their surrounding vicinities. The precipitation extended to northern parts of the city such as North Nazimabad, Federal B Area, North Karachi, and Buffer Zone. Other localities including Guru Mandir, Lasbela, Liaquatabad, and Nazimabad also experienced rainfall, disrupting outdoor activities and gatherings. Coastal regions like Sea View and Clifton, popular spots for Eid outings, were not spared from the wet weather either.

Due to the persistent rain, authorities in several districts made the decision to shift Eid congregational prayers from open grounds to indoor mosque settings. This move was aimed at ensuring the safety and comfort of worshippers while maintaining social distancing protocols amid the ongoing pandemic concerns. The heavy showers caused waterlogging in many Eidgahs, parks, and open spaces, making it difficult for people to perform prayers in the usual outdoor environment.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued a forecast warning of continued thunderstorms throughout the day in Karachi. The weather office highlighted that the rainfall would bring some relief from the recent heatwave, with temperatures expected to drop to a maximum of 31 degrees Celsius. The intermittent rain is predicted to persist until late evening, accompanied by cloudy skies that are likely to extend into the second and third days of Eid celebrations.

These weather conditions have added an unexpected twist to the Eid festivities in Karachi, where families and communities had planned outdoor gatherings and visits. The damp and cool atmosphere contrasts with the usual bright and sunny Eid mornings, prompting many to adjust their plans accordingly. As the city braces for more unsettled weather, residents are advised to stay cautious and follow any directives issued by local authorities to ensure a safe and peaceful Eid holiday.
