In a recent announcement, all educational institutions across Islamabad, including public and private schools, colleges, and universities, have been directed to remain closed on March 13, 2026. This decision was formalized through an official notification issued by the district magistrate, signaling a one-day public holiday for the entire education sector within the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

The notification was shared by Islamabad’s Deputy Commissioner, Irfan Nawaz Memon, via a post on the social media platform X. He stated that March 13, which falls on a Friday, will be observed as a public holiday for all educational establishments operating within the revenue boundaries of the ICT. Notably, the official communication did not provide any specific explanation or reason behind the closure, leaving the public and educational stakeholders to await further clarification.

Meanwhile, this development coincides with a similar announcement from the Sindh provincial government, which has declared a public holiday across the entire province on the same day. The Services Department of Sindh issued a notification outlining that all government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils under provincial administration will remain closed on March 13, with the exception of essential services that must continue to operate.

This provincial holiday aligns with the religious observance of Jumma-tul-Wida, the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan, a significant day for Muslims marked by special prayers and gatherings. Sindh’s Local Government Minister, Nasir Hussain Shah, had earlier confirmed that the government would observe a public holiday on this day. the lunar calendar, if Ramadan completes 29 days of fasting, March 13 will indeed correspond with Jumma-tul-Wida, adding cultural and spiritual significance to the closure.

The simultaneous closure of educational institutions in Islamabad and government offices in Sindh reflects the importance of this day in the Islamic calendar. It also allows citizens to participate fully in religious activities and spend time with family and community. As the day approaches, further updates may emerge regarding any additional closures or arrangements in other provinces or sectors.
