Security Measures Lead to Closure of Major Karachi Roads, Causing Traffic Reroutes

In a move aimed at addressing ongoing security concerns, several crucial arteries in Karachi were shut down once again on Wednesday, significantly impacting the flow of traffic throughout the metropolis. The closures affected some of the city’s busiest routes, prompting authorities to implement a comprehensive traffic diversion plan to manage the resulting congestion.

Traffic officials confirmed that both lanes of MT Khan Road have been completely closed to vehicular movement. Additionally, Mai Kolachi Road, a vital coastal corridor known for its heavy daily traffic, was also sealed off on both sides. This disruption has created considerable challenges for commuters, particularly those traveling along the city’s southern coastal belt, which is a key route connecting various commercial and residential areas.

To alleviate the mounting traffic pressure, authorities have redirected vehicles toward Khajoor Chowk, a major intersection that is now serving as a pivotal point for managing the diverted flow. Vehicles approaching from Mai Kolachi Road are being turned around and sent back, as passage through this route remains restricted. This measure, while necessary for security, has caused delays and forced drivers to seek alternative paths.

Meanwhile, traffic coming from Jinnah Bridge, another significant entry point into Karachi’s central business district, is being rerouted toward I.I. Chundrigar Road. This adjustment is part of a temporary traffic management strategy designed to maintain order and reduce bottlenecks during the period of road closures. The authorities have also issued specific travel advisories for commuters heading toward Clifton or the Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) area from Jinnah Bridge, recommending the use of I.I. Chundrigar Road followed by Shaheen Complex and PIDC Road to reach their destinations smoothly.

Residents traveling from the Boat Basin area toward Jinnah Bridge are advised to take the Boat Basin–Teen Talwar route as an alternative to avoid the closed sections. Traffic police have been actively monitoring the situation and have urged all motorists to comply with the revised routes and cooperate with law enforcement personnel. Their cooperation is crucial to prevent further congestion and ensure the security measures can be effectively implemented without causing undue hardship to the public.

It is worth noting that such closures are part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to maintain law and order in Karachi, a city that frequently faces challenges related to public safety. While these restrictions may cause inconvenience, officials emphasize that they are temporary and necessary to safeguard citizens and critical infrastructure. Commuters are encouraged to stay updated on traffic developments and plan their journeys accordingly until normal conditions are restored.
