Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently held a significant meeting with former Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif at the latter’s residence in Jati Umra. The gathering focused on the pressing political and economic challenges currently facing Pakistan, with particular attention given to the country’s energy sector and the ongoing regional tensions that continue to impact national stability.

The meeting was attended by key political figures, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, highlighting the importance of the discussions. The participants engaged in in-depth conversations about how escalating global conflicts and market fluctuations are influencing Pakistan’s economy, especially in terms of petroleum supply and pricing. This dialogue underscored the government’s commitment to addressing these issues through coordinated efforts.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif provided a detailed briefing on the current state of petroleum supplies in Pakistan. He reassured that despite the volatility in international oil markets, the government has managed to keep fuel availability stable within the country. The Prime Minister emphasized that several proactive measures have been implemented to prevent disruptions and ensure a steady flow of petroleum products to consumers nationwide.

Shehbaz Sharif explained that the government’s policy aims to minimize the financial burden of rising oil prices on the public. While acknowledging that some price increases were unavoidable due to external pressures, he stressed that efforts are underway to shield ordinary citizens from the full impact. Furthermore, the Prime Minister revealed that Pakistan is actively pursuing a comprehensive strategy to secure continuous petroleum imports, maintaining ongoing diplomatic engagements with key Gulf countries such as Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Looking ahead, the Prime Minister expressed optimism that additional oil shipments would arrive within the next 48 hours, which could significantly ease the current supply situation. He also announced that the government is prepared to take stringent action against any individuals or groups involved in hoarding or artificially creating shortages of fuel, a move aimed at protecting consumers and stabilizing the market.

In addition to economic concerns, Shehbaz Sharif highlighted recent diplomatic efforts to foster regional peace and stability. He reiterated Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting harmony while remaining vigilant and ready to respond to any emerging crises. This approach reflects the government’s broader strategy to balance internal economic management with external geopolitical realities.

On his part, Nawaz Sharif stressed the critical importance of maintaining uninterrupted energy supplies despite the prevailing regional uncertainties. He welcomed the government’s initiatives to explore alternative oil procurement options, describing them as positive and necessary steps. Nawaz Sharif also pointed out the sensitivity of the current global environment and urged the government to adopt a cautious yet effective economic policy to navigate these challenges.

Moreover, Nawaz Sharif underscored the need to prioritize public welfare during these difficult times. He called for immediate and decisive actions to stabilize Pakistan’s economy, emphasizing that national unity and a well-coordinated strategy are essential to overcoming the ongoing crisis. His remarks reflected a shared understanding among the country’s leadership about the urgency of addressing both economic hardships and geopolitical risks in tandem.
