Shopkeeper Asghar questions fire response time
Shopkeeper Asghar said the market has 20 shops and that the fire was first reported to Rescue 15. He said helpline staff told them they would inform the fire brigade, but tenders reached the site 15 to 20 minutes later, by which time the blaze had spread.
Asghar said the market was established on a commercial plot and estimated losses worth millions of rupees. The Chief Fire Officer added that the same market had previously experienced a fire.
December 2024 blaze destroyed furniture worth millions
Earlier in December 2024, a massive fire broke out at the same furniture market, reducing furniture worth millions to ashes. That fire began in nearby bushes before spreading to the market, and seven fire brigade vehicles were deployed. Rescue 1122 said more than 40% of the furniture was destroyed and over 80 shops were affected.
All people in the market were evacuated safely, and nearby residential buildings were not harmed.
