Islamabad Traffic Police Updates Red Zone Entry Routes Amid Restrictions

On March 2, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) issued a fresh advisory outlining updated traffic regulations for accessing the highly sensitive Red Zone area. This announcement comes as part of ongoing efforts to manage vehicular flow and enhance security within the federal capital’s core administrative district. the latest instructions, motorists are now permitted to enter the Red Zone exclusively via two designated corridors: Margalla Road and the route passing by the Marriott Hotel. All other access points to this critical zone have been temporarily sealed off until further directives are issued.

These new restrictions are expected to streamline traffic movement and reduce congestion in the heart of Islamabad, where government offices and diplomatic missions are concentrated. The closure of alternative roads leading into the Red Zone aims to bolster security measures and ensure smoother transit for authorized vehicles. Commuters who typically use routes other than Margalla Road or the Marriott Hotel path will need to adjust their travel plans accordingly to avoid inconvenience.

For drivers approaching from Club Road, the ITP has recommended a specific detour to facilitate entry. Motorists should proceed towards Kashmir Chowk and from there, follow Srinagar Highway, then Seventh Avenue, before finally merging onto Margalla Road to reach their destination within the Red Zone. This rerouting is designed to maintain a steady flow of traffic while adhering to the new access limitations. Similarly, travelers originating from Barakahu have been advised to adopt the same route via Kashmir Chowk, Srinagar Highway, Seventh Avenue, and Margalla Road to gain entry.

To assist the public in navigating these changes, the Islamabad Traffic Police have made several resources available. Citizens seeking real-time traffic updates or requiring assistance can contact the emergency helpline by dialing 15. Additionally, the dedicated Traffic Helpline at 1915 remains operational for inquiries related to route planning and traffic conditions. For those who prefer live audio updates, ITP broadcasts continuous traffic information on FM 92.4, providing commuters with timely alerts to help them avoid delays and select the most efficient paths.

It is worth noting that these measures reflect the authorities’ commitment to maintaining order and security within Islamabad’s Red Zone, which houses key government institutions and foreign embassies. The updated traffic plan not only aims to reduce congestion but also to enhance the overall safety of the area amid heightened security concerns. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to stay informed about any further changes by monitoring official announcements and utilizing the available communication channels.
