Pakistan Calls for Calm Amid Rising Tensions in Middle East Conflict

Pakistan has taken a firm stance urging all parties involved in the escalating conflict in the Middle East to exercise patience and restraint. Speaking at an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council focused on the deteriorating situation in the region, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, expressed deep concern over the recent surge in hostilities. He emphasized the urgent need for diplomatic dialogue and peaceful resolution as violence continues to threaten regional stability.

During his address, Ambassador Iftikhar strongly condemned the recent attacks on Iran, highlighting that these assaults occurred despite ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation. He appealed to all involved parties to respect international laws and avoid actions that could further inflame tensions. The Pakistani envoy also extended condemnation to the attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Qatar, underscoring Pakistan’s consistent position against violence and its commitment to upholding the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter.

In addition to condemning the military strikes, the Pakistani representative brought attention to the tragic loss of a Pakistani citizen in the UAE, who was killed by falling debris resulting from a missile attack. This incident was highlighted to illustrate the human cost of the conflict and to urge all sides to prioritize the protection of civilians. Ambassador Iftikhar called on the international community to work collectively to prevent further casualties and to safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations in the region.

Pakistan also expressed appreciation for Oman’s role as a mediator in the ongoing talks between the United States and Iran, recognizing the importance of such diplomatic initiatives in reducing hostilities. The ambassador reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for peaceful dialogue and its hope that these efforts would pave the way for a sustainable resolution to the crisis.

The Security Council meeting took place against the backdrop of heightened military activity, including reports of Iran launching a series of ballistic missiles and drone strikes targeting northern Israel under the operation named “Fateh Khyber.” These attacks triggered air raid sirens and explosions across several Israeli cities, including the capital, Tel Aviv, signaling the intensity and scale of the Iranian counteroffensive. Iranian military officials confirmed these strikes, which have further escalated the conflict and drawn international concern.

As the situation continues to evolve rapidly, Pakistan’s call for restraint and adherence to international norms underscores the critical need for calm and dialogue in a region fraught with longstanding tensions. The country’s diplomatic efforts at the United Nations highlight its role as a voice of moderation, advocating for peace and stability amid one of the most volatile geopolitical crises of recent times.
