Pakistan Urges Immediate Ceasefire and Diplomatic Resolution Amid Iran Tensions

In a significant address to the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, made a heartfelt appeal for an immediate halt to hostilities in Iran. Highlighting the growing threat of regional instability, he stressed the critical need for all involved parties to cease fire without delay to prevent further escalation of violence that could destabilize the broader Middle East.

Ambassador Ahmad did not hold back in expressing Pakistan’s strong condemnation of the recent military strikes carried out on Iranian territory. He also denounced the subsequent retaliatory attacks that have targeted several Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates. These developments, he warned, risk plunging the region into a cycle of violence with far-reaching consequences for peace and security.

Adding a deeply personal dimension to his remarks, the ambassador conveyed profound sorrow over the tragic death of a Pakistani citizen in the UAE, describing the incident as a “dastardly attack” that has deeply affected the Pakistani community. This loss underscored the human cost of the ongoing conflict and reinforced Pakistan’s commitment to protecting its nationals abroad while advocating for peace.

Throughout his speech, Ambassador Ahmad reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast solidarity with its Gulf neighbors, emphasizing the importance of unity and cooperation among brotherly nations during these turbulent times. He reminded all parties involved that adherence to the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter and respect for international law must remain the cornerstone of any response to the crisis.

Concluding his address, the ambassador called on all sides to exercise the utmost restraint and prioritize dialogue over confrontation. He urged a return to diplomatic channels as the only viable path toward a sustainable and peaceful resolution. His appeal reflected Pakistan’s broader foreign policy stance, which consistently advocates for peaceful conflict resolution and regional stability through negotiation and mutual respect.
