Traffic on the M-5 motorway experienced significant disruption following the collapse of high-voltage transmission lines onto the roadway amid a severe windstorm. This incident forced the Motorway Police to implement immediate traffic diversions to ensure commuter safety and prevent accidents.
The affected section lies between Rohri and Rahim Yar Khan, specifically at kilometre 510, where the fallen power lines obstructed the motorway. As a precautionary measure, authorities suspended heavy traffic movement in this stretch and halted the entry of northbound vehicles from Rohri and Pano Aqil.
In a bid to manage the situation effectively, traffic has been rerouted through alternative pathways at Iqbalabad and Guddu. Motorists traveling from Punjab to Sindh are advised to take the National Highway (N-5) via Iqbalabad, while those heading back towards Punjab can rejoin the M-5 motorway through the National Highway from Rahim Yar Khan.
This incident highlights the vulnerability of critical infrastructure during extreme weather conditions and underscores the importance of prompt response by traffic authorities to maintain road safety and minimize inconvenience for travelers. Motorway Police continue to monitor the situation closely as repair work on the transmission lines is underway.
