Karachi Faces Season’s Peak Heat with Feels-Like Temperature Near 50°C

Karachi, Pakistan’s financial center, is expected to experience the most intense heat of the season on Saturday, as the heat index could soar to nearly 50 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists have highlighted that the combination of soaring temperatures, elevated humidity, and minimal wind activity will create particularly oppressive conditions throughout the city.

On Friday, the heatwave reached a peak with the perceived temperature climbing to approximately 49°C. The discomfort persisted overnight due to stagnant air and sustained humidity levels, making relief elusive for residents.

Forecasters predict the actual temperature on Saturday will rise to around 39°C in the city, while suburban areas might see temperatures reaching 40°C. However, the high humidity and weak sea breeze are expected to push the apparent temperature during the afternoon hours between 49°C and 50°C, intensifying the heat stress.

By evening, a slight reprieve is anticipated as sea breezes are likely to pick up, potentially easing the oppressive conditions. Nonetheless, authorities caution that if wind speeds decrease again later at night, humidity could return, prolonging discomfort.

The extreme heat and humidity are expected to disrupt daily routines and pose health risks for Karachi’s population. Officials and health experts have urged the public to take necessary precautions, such as maintaining hydration, avoiding extended exposure to direct sunlight, and paying special attention to vulnerable groups like children and the elderly to prevent heat-related illnesses.
