Karachi Endures Scorching Heat as ‘Feels Like’ Temperature Hits 45°C

Karachi continued to endure hot and humid conditions on Thursday, with the official temperature reaching 36.1°C, while the perceived temperature, or “feels like” temperature, soared to 45°C. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts that this hot and humid weather pattern will persist in the city for the next three days.

Temperatures are predicted to hover around 38°C on Friday and rise slightly to 39°C on Saturday, maintaining the sweltering conditions. In a significant development, PMD Deputy Director Anjum Nazir Zaigham issued a warning about the sharp increase in temperatures, urging the public to implement comprehensive safety measures. He emphasized the importance of protecting vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, as well as safeguarding valuables and animals during this period.

The official highlighted that the heatwave is expected to continue in Karachi until May 3, with predominantly hot and dry weather prevailing. Residents have been advised to minimize unnecessary outdoor activities and take precautions during the hottest parts of the day to avoid heat-related health risks.

Meanwhile, Zaigham noted that westerly winds are anticipated to influence the region following this heatwave phase, potentially providing some temporary relief by slightly lowering temperatures. However, he cautioned that the overall weather outlook for May and June remains severe, with a strong possibility of intense heatwaves affecting large areas of Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan. Temperatures in these regions are expected to remain significantly above average, posing ongoing challenges for residents and authorities alike.
